Protection is the Top Priority

Something that not everybody thinks about when putting on their sunglasses is the fact that wearing the wrong ones can actually be more damaging than not wearing them at all. Your pupils open when they sense that it’s dark to allow more light in so that you can see better. Pretty cool, right?

Unfortunately, this also allows harmful UV rays that unprotected sunglasses don’t block to enter more easily and wreak havoc on your retinas. Prolonged exposure can lead to serious conditions like cataracts and macular degeneration. Not as cool. Always make sure that your sunglasses come with guaranteed 100% UVA and UVB protection, and wear a wide-brimmed hat. Keep those peepers safe!

Cut Back on Glare by Purchasing Polarized Sunglasses

If you’ve ever bought a pair of sunglasses before, you may have noticed that some of them say “polarized” on the inside of the arm, or on one of the lenses (sometimes they just have a capital P). Sunglasses that are polarized offer a variety of benefits as opposed to their non-polarized counterparts.

Light is typically diffused in all directions, but when light bounces off of flat surfaces, it becomes “polarized”. This means that the light particles are traveling in the same direction at the same time, resulting in a significantly more intense light. When that light reflects into your eyes, it can create an intense, sometimes painful glare that will leave you temporarily seeing spots.

Your eyes deserve the best protection available, so why not consider polarized lenses? Think of polarized lenses as sunscreen for your eyes. If we protect our skin from the sun why not protect our eyes?

Now for the Fun Stuff: Style!

If you’re into fashion and want to make sure that your shades reflect your favorite features, try these tips!

  • In general, you want to get sunglasses that contrast and balance your face shape – If you have a square face shape, try curvy and round frames, if you have a round face try blockier frames with harder edges.
  • Match your skin tone with the color of your lenses – Cool skin tones should have cool colors (blue, green, pink, purple, black), while warm skin tones should go for warm colors (red, orange, yellow, brown, white).
  • Experiment – Don’t forget that some fashion rules are made to be broken! Try out different looks and styles and find something that you like. Let your shades do the talking!

Spring is here, and summer is just around the corner. So let the fun begin and of course, don’t forget to hurry into Hinsdale Eye Center before May 26th so you can take advantage of 30% off sale on sunglasses!
