BOTOX
BOTOX in Hinsdale
What is BOTOX?
BOTOX®, an extremely common and effective in-office procedure, is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the face. This is a very popular procedure, and is proven to be safe and effective. BOTOX® injections are excellent for getting rid of frown lines and wrinkles on the forehead. XEOMIN® is very similar to BOTOX® in that it is used to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, but may be better suited for those who do not respond well to BOTOX®.
What is BOTOX used for?
The FDA first approved BOTOX in 2002. Its primary usage is to reduce wrinkles caused by movement and, specifically, wrinkles of the face. BOTOX can significantly reduce
- Crow’s Feet
- Frown Lines
- Vertical Lines
However, BOTOX has other body issues it can help treat. Some examples are
- Severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis)
- Uncontrollable blinking (blepharospasm)
- Eyes that point in different directions (strabismus)
- Overactive bladder
- Chronic migraines
- Cervical dystonia, severe neck and shoulder muscle spasms caused by a neurological disorder
How Does BOTOX Work?
BOTOX works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. It specifically targets the muscles responsible for creating dynamic wrinkles—such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet—which form as a result of repeated facial expressions over time. By relaxing these muscles, BOTOX smooths out the overlying skin, resulting in a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The treatment does not affect surrounding muscles, allowing you to maintain natural facial expressions while reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
How Long Does the Botox Procedure Take?
The BOTOX injection process is quick and minimally invasive, typically taking only 10 to 15 minutes to complete in the office. Most patients compare it to the speed and simplicity of receiving a flu shot. There is little to no downtime, allowing you to return to your daily activities immediately afterward. While some patients may notice subtle changes within a few days, the full effects of BOTOX generally become visible within 7 to 14 days.
How Long Does BOTOX Last?
The changes from a BOTOX injection will eventually wear off in 3-6 months. You may notice that your wrinkles may appear less intense than before your injection. This change in intensity is because the injection causes the muscles to shrink over time.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a neurological procedure, or are allergic to cow’s milk protein, you should not use BOTOX. Schedule an evaluation with Hinsdale Eye Center to see if BOTOX can help you!
