Are you tired of dealing with eyeglasses or contact lenses? LASIK surgery is the extremely popular procedure that has been freeing thousands of patients from the hassle of glasses and contact lenses. LASIK is fast, painless, and the results are life-changing.
What is LASIK Surgery?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) surgery is a short procedure in which the cornea is reshaped using an excimer laser. In order to reshape the cornea, the LASIK surgeon needs to create a corneal “flap” using a femtosecond laser. Once the inner layers of the cornea are exposed, the surgeon can then use the excimer laser to make tiny adjustments to the shape of the eye. Once finished, the flap is then replaced and acts as a self-healing bandage, with no stitches required. Most patients see a huge improvement in vision within 24 hours after the procedure.
Am I a Candidate for LASIK Surgery?
Although LASIK surgery is safe and effective, the procedure is not for everyone. The best candidates for LASIK are those who are healthy, over 18 years old and have had a stable prescription a year or more. There are other requirements for being a good LASIK candidate, and the best way to know if you are a good candidate is to visit Hinsdale Eye Center for a consultation. If you are told that you are not a candidate for LASIK, don’t worry! There are other vision correction procedures that provide results similar to that of LASIK. LASIK alternatives include PRK and Visian ICL, among others. If you have been considering LASIK surgery, call Hinsdale Eye for a LASIK consultation. Don’t wait, start your journey to clear vision today!
